How Does PayPal Make Money With My Money?

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, there are approx. 100,000 complaints outstanding at PayPal (Are any of these yours?). In many instances disputes can run on for months leaving people frustrated and out of pocket as they are unable to access their accounts. So what happens to the millions of dollars tied up in frozen accounts and disputes? Well, here is a clip from the San Francisco Chronicle that basically sums it up:

U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel of San Jose refused to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks class-action status on behalf of thousands of PayPal customers nationwide. A common allegation is that the company brushes off or stalls customer grievances for months and meanwhile freezes the customer's account and pockets the interest (So that's how they make their money!). No wonder they freeze so many accounts!

Writer Wishes To Remain Anonymous

I’m sorry to remain anonnymous, but I’ve got an account with Paypal – and surprisingly – I’ve never had a major problem with it! I have an online chat-pal type friend who works with Paypal. I know this to be a fact for the following reason:

I sell certain home-made products on eBay. I’ve only had to e-mail customer service over one problem – a minor problem with a buyer who was harassing me. (He just couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t sell an item right to him for a price lower than the current bid)

In one of my multiple e-mails, I made a few choice statements about this person. I have been known to have a bit of a cruel sense of humor when it comes to people I don’t like.

Anyway, I’m chatting with my online pal a few months later, and she tells me that she ‘really enjoyed’ my comedic conversation with customer service…

When I asked how she knew about that, she stated that it wasn’t uncommon for the customer service staff to pass around “humorous” or “idiotic” customer letters by forwarding the e-mail to eachother. She had recognized my name, and wanted to tell me how funny I was.

Natrually, I pretended to take the compliment well.. but underneath.. I was furious.

You see.. my friend does not work in customer service.

Who else is reading our sensitive information because it’s “funny”??
