I got so screwed by paypal

I had PayPal investigate a non-delivery of some digital goods I purchased. The seller turned out to be a scammer, and must have cleared his PP balance so PayPal couldn’t get the funds back.

Their message is so ironic considering how they treat legitimate sellers of digital goods, they always side with the buyer even when there is clear evidence of the buyer receiving goods. However in my case they sided with the seller. They seem to make the rules as they go and only protect you if they can recover $$, otherwise you’re on your own.

So now I’m down $500, and no goods delivered. Here’s the PayPal email response.

Dear {name removed},

We completed our investigation for the following transaction:

Unfortunately, we are refusing your claim because your purchase was for a
virtual, digital or intangible item, which is not covered under PayPal
Buyer Protection. We only cover claims involving physical items that can be
shipped and tracked.

We encourage you to work directly with your seller to resolve the problem.
You’ll find their contact information on the Transaction Details page.

That’s a first I have ever heard of a buyer getting screwed buying digital goods, like you said it’s usually the seller that doesn’t have a leg to stand on. And you gotta love how they say in their email that PayPal
Buyer Protection only cover claims involving physical items that can be shipped and tracked. They don’t cover that either most of the time. you are better off just paying with a credit card then using paypal.
