Unusual account activity leads to bank account request

I received an email from PayPal saying they had detected unusual account activity.

So I go to my account to see what this activity was (went to the website directly; not via email link) and find that my account access is limited and I can only remove the limit by entering my bank account or credit card number.

Why would I enter my bank account or credit card number if my account is potentially hacked? I called PayPal and waited on hold for 40 minutes to point out that this felt counter intuitive. They agreed and removed the limitation after I reset my password. We shall see if that is really going to happen, I have my doubts when it comes to paypal following through on a promise.

That’s really not what I wanted to spend an hour doing this morning. Thanks PayPal!
